Claire and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Poor baby! We had her 2 month check up today and, of course, that included her first round of immunizations. I don't think I have ever seen her face so purple as she SCREAMED at the top of her little lungs. The hardest part for me was the pathetic whimpering she did after it was over!

She is now sleeping soundly and sporting two pretty cool Bugs Bunny bandaids on her meaty thighs. Stylin'.

She is growing like crazy though. She jumped from the 25th percentile to the 95th in her weight. She currently weighs 12 pounds and 14 ounces. That is more than our friend's 4 month old!!
We took her 2 month pic with the Cat in the Hat doll. I've included the previous months for comparison. What a cutie!

Communicable Diseases

So our insurance requires any prescription that will be refilled more than three times to be filled through an online mail order company. Now that I will apparently be taking prenatal vitamins for the remainder of my life, I needed to set up an account and start ordering online. No problem.

I must say that I found it rather amusing to get a package of medication where the package has the giant letters STD written across the top.

I don't care what type of "standard" shipping the package received, that is comedy folks.

Blursula

I went to the eye doctor for my annual exam today. Seems that having little Claire changed my prescription a bit. I think I am finally back in contact lenses! Know what I've missed most about contact lenses? Getting to wear sun glasses. Oh how I've missed them.

At the doctor's office I was faced with one of my pet peeves: A new doctor with no warning.

I have had a history of bad luck with doctors of all kinds. Let's take for example, the doctor who took a 10 minute phone call WHILE she was in the middle of my examination. I don't mean she left the room to take a call, no no. She chatted it up for 10 minutes while she continued to examine me. HELLO?? That is just one of many examples I could bore you with, but I digress.

To avoid problems such as this, I now go to great lengths to research any doctor I am about to see. I call friends for references, I check their web profile, sometimes I even go and interview the doctor before making my first appointment. So once I have found a doctor I like, I want to see THAT doctor. Go figure.

I was none too pleased today when "Random Doctor" appeared to perform my exam. I haven't had the chance to research RD. For all I know, he just walked in off the street and decided he wanted to try eye exams for fun. Apparently the practice has decided to use RD for the summer months so that "Doctor of Choice" can perform many much needed eye surgeries. That is fine with me, but TELL me about it when I make the appointment. I will gladly postpone my appointment until DoC can see me.

In fairness, RD did a good job as far as I can tell. I have a new prescription but won't know if it works for several hours because he dialated my eyes and everything looks fuzzy. Thus the title of, "Blursula". (Can you name that reference?)

On a brighter note, Claire slept for 9 STRAIGHT HOURS last night. What a wonder child!

Hmmmm . . .

"It looks like somebody has got a case of the Mondays."

Can you name that movie reference?

A Minor Detail

So Michael and I were chatting about the color of Claire's eyes. They are, of course, blue right now as most new babies eyes are. We were debating how long it will take before we would know if she will keep the blue eyes or if they will turn brown. The conversation went something like this:

Me: I bet they change to brown because they are so dark already.

Michael: Maybe, but it would sure be cool to have a baby with blue eyes considering that neither one of us has blue eyes.

Me: Blank stare. (see picture of my eyes below)
It is lucky for him that I have a good sense of humor. I found the fact that my husband didn't know I had blue eyes more humorous than offensive. Hey, 4 years into the marriage and we are still learning stuff about each other!

Refreshed

Well, Claire has been threatening to sleep through the night for the past week. She often sleeps for 5 hour stretches and we've even gotten a couple of 6 hour stretches in the mix. While I have been ever so grateful for this rest, I couldn't bring myself to call this "sleeping through the night" because I was still getting up at 2 am for a feeding each night. (NOTE: I am NOT complaining. I have a wonder child when it comes to night sleep and am very grateful.)

That said, I think I can finally say that she slept through the night last night. We put her down at 10:30 (which is 2 hours late for her) and she slept until 5:30. That's 7 straight hours people!! Her first feeding of the morning isn't technically until 7:00 and I wanted to keep her on schedule, so I let her eat for about 5 minutes, just enough to help her doze back off and she then slept until I woke her at 7:00!
Ahhhh . . . . bliss!
